About Us

The Narrabri Shire is positioned and promoted as the ‘Heart of the North West’ region of NSW, focusing on the beauty of the landforms and landscapes, Mt Kaputar National Park and the Pilliga Forests, the Pilliga Bore Baths and the towns and villages.  Sawn Rocks is identified as an ‘iconic’ attraction for the North West Region.  Narrabri Shire is positioned as a ‘hub’ – a place to establish a base and explore the surrounding region.
 
The Narrabri VIC is the ‘front door’ to our Shire. We are often the first port of call for people looking for a ‘tree-change’ and considering moving to the area, people who are relocating to work in the Shire, and for people who are looking to invest in the Shire.  The Narrabri Shire Tourism Department, through the delivery of a range of tourism services is responsible for coordinating and driving the tourism industry within the Shire, services include delivery of the Narrabri Shire Destination Management Plan, marketing and promotion ,industry coordination and development, event coordination and promotion, promotional collateral, operation of the Narrabri Shire Visitor Information Centre and delivery of information services to visitors, residents, tourism operators, businesses and travel trade.
 
Narrabri Shire Visitor Information Centre is a Level 2 Accredited VIC, and is part of the Australian-wide AVIC network.  The Centre is operated by Narrabri Shire Council and is open 360  from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and 9am – 2pm Saturday & Sunday (closed All Public Holidays).
 
The Centre services on average 34,000 over-counter, 12,500 telephone and 5000 email enquiries per year.  The Centre produces and distributes a wide range of information on our Shire, and also distributes information on other localities.  Our Visitor Guide is displayed in other VICs within the AVIC network, including VICs in Sydney, along the main routes feeding into Narrabri Shire and in our main source markets.  The VIC showcases our local industries and attractions, and also showcases and sells local products.  We also provide the link between visitors and local businesses – referring business to accommodation and to many of the local businesses in the Shire (medical and health services, automotive services, Clubs, hotels, eateries, retailers etc.  Through our AVIC accreditation, contact details for the Narrabri VIC and our tourism website, is listed in the ‘call to action’ in marketing campaigns undertaken by tourism marketing organisations including Tourism Australia, Destination NSW and Country Outback NSW Regional Tourism Organisation.

A trip inside the Narrabri Shire Visitor Information Centre is an experience in itself.
